The meaning of a Goal-Ashley Dickson
First Goal for Australia
Ashley's goal at the World Cup
Ashley always said his first international goal was something special but it was something sentimental to him as well. This remarkable achievement not only marked a significant milestone in his career but also held special meaning as it was his first goal for his beloved country.
This was a very special goal, dedicated to Ashley's close friend Matt. They played soccer together for years, and they had a special bond and friendship. They were like partners in crime on and off the field, always looking out for each other.
But a few years ago, Ashley lost Matt. It was a tough time for the entire soccer community, but especially for Ashley. He was devastated to lose his best mate.
Last year at the World Cup, Ashley scored his first international goal. It was in his last game of the tournament, and he had been waiting for this moment the whole time. As soon as he scored, he turned to the camera and made an M with his hands, dedicating the goal to Matt.
Even today, Ashley still takes a moment before every game to breathe and look up to the sky, making sure Matt is there watching over him. Ashley knows Matt would be proud of him for living his dream of playing at an international level for his country.
Ashley has found a home with DFA, a team that accepts him for his abilities and knowledge of the game. It's a team where everyone shares the same impairment, and they treat each other with respect and love for football.
To mark the importance of the image Deaf Football Australia had the image painted on a metalic board and presented to Ashley.
